As if being an explorer wasn't already difficult enough, quarantine has made it 10x harder than it was before.
While being quarantined we can only imagine what it would be like to travel again. Well you still can...virtually! Here are our top 10 places you can visit online, all in the same day and from the comfort of your own room.
1. Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History
One of the world's most esteemed museums, the Smithsonian is a name many have heard at least once before. Hosting the most extensive collection of natural history specimen, view some of the most famous exhibits like the Bone Hall, Butterfly Pavilion, and the Hall of Fossils!
2. The Taj Mahal
We've mentioned this one before in our previous virtual museums blog post, but for good reason! You can explore the exterior of the famous Indian mausoleum with the virtual tour. Easily view different sections of the Taj Mahal from a bird's eye view – something you definitely couldn't do in person!
3. The Great Wall of China
The massive structure that took over 2,000 years to build and can be seen from space, can now be seen from the comfort of your living room! If physical exercise isn't your thing (it's not our first choice, either), skip walking the 69 million feet distance and check it out from your cozy bed instead.
4. The J. Paul Getty Museum
Google has allowed people to get up close and personal with art at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles. If you're someone who loves looking at paintings close up in detail but gets yelled at for being too close to the art, this is a happy medium. Zoom in and view all of your favorite paintings as close as you'd like!
5. The Louvre
Viewing fine art has been made so much easier! You don't need to book a roundtrip ticket to Paris to enjoy what this highly regarded museum has to offer. Brush up on your French, pour some wine, and pop on your beret as you explore a piece of Paris from your living room. On the Louvre’s website you can choose to explore several famous exhibits such as “The Advent of the Artist,” “Remains of the Louvre’s Moat,” and more!
6. The Vatican’s Museum
The Pope, iconic art, and outstanding architecture: The Vatican is a must-see when you're visiting the land of pasta & pepperoncinis. Now is the best time to explore the Vatican while avoiding the crowds. This virtual tour allows you to see the landmark's museums such as the Pio Clementino, Raphael's Rooms, and others.
7. The Sistine Chapel
You read the name – do we really need to say anything else? Normally you wouldn’t be able to view Michelangelo’s masterpiece this close or take your own photo for that matter. However now you can get as close as you’d like with this virtual tour of the Sistine Chapel.
8. Route 66
Finish the song lyrics: "When you make that California trip, get your kicks on ______!" Route 66 is one of the world’s most famous highways stretching from Illinois to California! Although its glory days are long gone, a lot of history still remains on this iconic route. Check it our for yourself!
9. The Colosseum
Mock sea battles, drama performances, and epic gladiator events all took place within this massive Roman colosseum. Listed as one of the Seven Wonders of the New World (and rightfully so), this amazing piece of architecture has so much history seeped into its limestone and brick-faced concrete. You may not be able to currently venture out under the Italian sun, but this might do for now.
Considered one of the most mysterious places on earth, check out Stonehenge, a prehistoric stone monument near Wiltshire, England, whose construction dates back to 3000 CE. Whether it might be a little too eerie in person for your liking or England is just too far of a plane ride, you can visit all that Stonehenge has to offer without leaving your house. When you visit the site virtually, you can get a close-up view of the stones, zoom in on carvings, and watch educational videos about them.

We know, the travel bug is biting hard and all you want to do is escape for a little bit. However, this quarantine will only end as fast as it can if we all continue to practice social distancing and wait it out a little bit longer.
