5 Hobbies To Try in Quarantine

Staying home and watching tv all day sounds like the dream...

But after a while, you get to the point where you get fed up and want to do something else instead. Quarantine is the perfect time to try out some new hobbies that you've never gotten around to and keep yourself entertained. The best part is, you might have all the materials you need just laying around in your house!

1. Scrapbooking

If social distancing has you looking through old photos and missing your friends and family, then scrapbooking might be what you need. Take a stroll down memory lane and create a photo book with all of your favorite pictures of you and your loved ones.

This is a great way to take your mind off of all the things that are currently ongoing and reminisce on happier times. Scrapbooking is a great way to remember all the memories you had and will make you optimistic for the future. Get creative and express yourself, the end result will make it all worth it!

2. Knitting

If you are looking for a little challenge, knitting is the way to go. Many of us right now are glued to our screens, whether we're watching TV, scrolling through our phones and tablets, or browsing on our laptops. It's crucial to keep exercising our mind. Learning all the different knitting stitches, techniques, and the repetitive movements can help soothe your mind while still exercising it as you go over all of the steps.

There are many videos on YouTube that offer step by step instructions on how to knit and the different types of stitches you can make. Knitting gives you the creative freedom to make anything you want such as a scarf, sweater, gloves, hat, etc. If you don’t have the materials, don’t worry! You can order yarn and needles online and have it shipped right to your doorstep.

3. Painting

It’s time to explore your artistic side! Tap into your inner Van Gogh (minus the ear cutting), grab those old paint brushes, and start creating your own masterpiece. Painting can be a very calming and relaxing hobby, even if you aren’t the best artist. A few minutes of painting helps you clear your head and escape from reality.

Painting is a great way to express yourself and the best part is, there are no rules to it! Get creative with different materials and canvases. Paint on a piece of paper, your nails, or even transform an old pair of jeans and make it into a beautiful piece of art. You can decorate your room with your paintings or you can make something for your friends and family. Whatever you pick, remember not to be too critical with yourself and just have fun with it!

4. Baking

Instead of ordering some baked goods for delivery, try to make it yourself! The possibilities are endless when it comes to baking. You can bake bread, muffins, cookies, rolls, or challenge yourself and decorate a cake. There are plenty of recipes and baking tutorials on the internet, so you are bound to find a recipe you like. You can even let your creativity flow and create a recipe from scratch. Even if you aren’t the best at baking, you’ll still probably end up with something delicious. Just make sure that you wash your hands before and after baking!

5. Yoga

It is incredibly tempting to just splay out like your inner potato on the couch and binge watch (especially if you've seen our top shows to stream during quarantine), but it is important to get a little movement into your daily routine. Both your body and mind will benefit from it! A simple way to get some exercise is with yoga.

Yoga is a very therapeutic way to relieve stress and boost your mental health – and you don’t have to be flexible or athletic to take it on. There are many great yoga apps and videos that teach you all the poses and stretches that you can try from the comfort of your home. Choose your intensity level from beginner to expert and start stretching! Take advantage of this free time to improve flexibility, relax, and clear your head.

If you were thinking about taking up a new hobby, now is the time to do it!

Doing something new during this time is critical for your mental health, so pick one and try to fit it into your daily routine! If you end up not liking it, at least you stepped out of your comfort zone and tried something new. But if you love it? Now you have something to add to your hobbies after quarantine ends. Everyone wins!

We hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and continuing to practice social distancing! Wishing you all the best. We'll see you in the next post!
