As humans, we crave connection.
Now that the coronavirus has separated us from our loved ones, it can feel difficult to keep meaningful relationships alive – though true friendship never dies. However, we’re still missing the affection & support that you normally get through face-to-face encounters. How can you maintain that bond?
Here are some digital ways to stay connected so you can stay distant, but still be social.
1. Send them an e-gift card to their favorite place.
Many companies have the option to send e-gift cards! Do they usually grab a cup of joe from Coffee Bean? Maybe they like to stay in & order from Postmates? Whatever their fancy, there’s probably an electronic gift card for it! Let them know you’re thinking about them by attaching a sweet note and watch how you make their day!
2. Dinner date over FaceTime.
One thing we miss are ‘catch up’ dinners – you know the ones, where you end up staying at the restaurant two hours after you finish your food because you have so much to talk about? One fun thing to do instead is to order food from your favorite local restaurant and eat it together on FaceTime. While you’re at it, bust open a bottle of wine or pop the bubbly!
3. Surprise them with a flower delivery!
Your neighborhood florist is probably still open and doing deliveries! Not only will you be supporting a local business, but you’ll also send your loved one some beautiful, fresh flowers that will brighten up their home. When you’re stuck inside all day in quarantine, it can get a little gloomy at times. The flowers will add some light into the room and every time they look at the bouquet, they’ll be thinking of you.
4. Send pictures of your pet(s).
Our furry friends are guaranteed to make anyone smile. Sending some photos and videos of your fur baby are sure to brighten up anyone’s day. Take it a step further and place a funny hat or a silly accessory on them to make your loved one laugh!
5. Write a handwritten letter.
Wait what? What year is this? Okay, okay – we get it. Though it might seem a bit dated, you’d be amazed at the power of a handwritten letter! There’s something so special about taking the time to handwrite your thoughts & feelings, much more special than an email or a text. Decorate the letter and the envelope, then stick on an interesting stamp to personalize it even further. Though it might take a little longer to get to them, the feeling they’ll have when they sort through their mail and see your letter will be beyond words!
In the end, we know nothing can substitute face-to-face human interaction.
Sometimes, a phone call or a text just doesn't seem enough. Until it’s safe to fully reunite with everyone we love, we’re going to have to come up with some creative ways to stay connected!
We hope this list helped spark some ideas & inspiration! Are there any creative ways you do that let people know you're thinking of them? Share them with us in the comments below!
