Online Courses You Can Take – For Free!

Now that everyone’s at home practicing social distancing, you’ve probably found yourself with a little more free time than usual.

If you’ve already binged through all your favorite shows, cooked all your favorite dishes, or finished all the spring cleaning, you may want to consider picking up a free online course to help get your brain juices flowing! Whether you want to learn more about a topic that interests you, freshen up on a current hobby, or educate yourself a little more on your professional goals, now’s a better time than ever!

We went ahead and put together a variety of sites that are offering free online courses right now. Check them out!

1. Coursera

This site offers a huge variety of courses from different companies and educational institutions at no cost! They have a wide variety of topics ranging from engineering and sciences, to humanities and marketing. After completing a course, they even have the option to become certified (for a fee) on the subject so you can make it official.

2. Elements of AI

Elements of AI was put together by a university in Finland and can actually count as college credit for some individuals. This course is a great way to learn about the new and ever changing topic of Artificial Intelligence (AI for short). It’s a 6 week course that goes in detail on the ways AI is changing the way we work and live our lives. In addition to that, you’ll learn the ways AI is created and how we can expect new ways it will be implemented in the near future.

3. Fender

Fender website

Here’s a great option for all you wanting to take your music skills up a notch! Right now Fender is offering 3 months of free music lessons to anyone interested. When you sign up, you can learn from their online lessons or by playing the songs you love most. This one won’t last forever so sign up while you still can!

4. Bon Appétit

If you love to cook, we highly recommend checking out Bon Appétit! They’re a popular magazine publisher that has gained even more popularity through online media and their social channels. They host multiple shows on their YouTube channel that can teach you how to make just about anything. Our favorite is Gourmet Makes where they teach you how to make popular snacks and treats from your own home! If you don’t like to cook, their YouTube is great entertainment regardless!

If you've been trying to kill time with something other than Netflix, why not try something beneficial?

At the end of this quarantine, you may come out with a new skill/hobby, or have improved greatly in a talent you already had! It might not be the first thing on your list (really – who wants to work during a pandemic?), but it's definitely something you won't regret doing. Your future self will thank you!

Thanks for joining us on another post! From the Modern Gents team, we hope you, your loved ones, and your community are safe, healthy, and doing well. Keep taking this one step at a time! We'll see you in our next blog post.
