Getting engaged is one of the most exciting times of your life!

You have met the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, which means popping the big question.  However, when it comes to actually getting down on one knee, you do not want to mess it up.  If you are looking for a little help, here are some do’s and don’ts when it comes to proposing.

DO capture it on camera

This is one of the biggest moments of your life. Everyone will want to hear the story of how you proposed, and what makes this moment even better is if you have caught the moment on camera.  Whether it's a picture or a video, the photographic evidence is something you and your significant other can look back on and cherish for years to come. You can show your parents, future kids and grandkids. It’s a timeless keepsake that serves as a reminder of your engagement.

DON'T choose a place that is loud

When you propose, you want to be able to hear the question, and to hear the answer. If you do it somewhere that is loud, you may not be able to hear the “yes” that you are so anxious to hear. Or, the question may not be heard at all,  which could ruin a proposal attempt.  You don’t need to pick a spot that has total silence either, just make sure you can hear the squeal of excitement as you get down on one knee.

DO pick a good background

Is there anything more romantic than getting engaged someplace beautiful? A gorgeous backdrop can help set the tone for your proposal, and make it feel even more special. It will also make the photos of your engagement even better. Each time you visit the spot, you will get to take in the beauty around you as you reminisce together.

DON'T propose somewhere crowded

Time and time again, great proposal photos or videos are ruined by people behind, in front, or right next to the couple.  Proposing someplace crowded not only ruins the photo or video, it takes away the closeness of the proposal. You don’t want someone bumping into you when you’re down on one knee and have the ring bounce out of your hand, or be anxious about the place being crowded during it either. It’s safer to choose a place a bit more isolated.

DO make it a surprise

Sure, you have probably discussed getting married before you propose (at least hopefully the proposal isn’t a total shock) but making it something unexpected in the moment can have a big payoff.  Everyone loves surprises, and this is the ultimate surprise. Your soon-to-be fiance will be caught off guard and swept off their feet by your unexpected show of love.
