The Top Festival & Concert Recordings to Watch at Home

One thing we really look forward to every year? #FestivalSZN.

A period that begins mid-spring through the end of fall that is home to every major music festival. If you’re an avid festival goer, it’s likely you had one (or maybe a few) set plans to attend a festival or concert this year. Despite being hopeful, it’s now apparent that #FestivalSZN is postponed for an unprecedented amount of time.

Don’t catch a bad case of FOMO! Instead, tap into the top 5 festival and concert recordings to watch at home:

Even if you haven’t been, you’ve heard about Coachella. The lineup, the people, the sights, and the magic of the desert – the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival is a three-day world of its own that thousands of people look forward to attending every year. Unfortunately, due to current events, the festival has been postponed to mid-October, leaving its people devastated (to say the least).

In efforts to raise our spirits, Goldenvoice (the company behind Coachella) is releasing the Coachella 20 year documentary, which will take us behind the scenes back to some of the most incredible performances. The documentary will live stream on YouTube on April 10th at noon – so whether it’s going to be your first or your tenth Coachella, you’ll be able to indulge in some never-before seen footage and get excited all over again. Coachella 2020 Weekend 1 is only 191 days away (from 04/01/2020)!

PS: Check out the time when Modern Gents went to Coachella – we guarantee it'll lift your spirits.

Insomniac Rave-a-Thons

Rave festival

Pasquale Rotella, the CEO of Insomniac, has done a phenomenal job at giving the fans his absolute best during this trying time. Amidst a nationwide #stayhome order, Insomniac is hosting a series of virtual rave-a-thons based on events they typically host throughout the year, such as Beyond Wonderland and Countdown.

Hosted at the Insomniac Headquarters in Los Angeles, the brand decks out their lobby to the theme of the event and invites a small lineup of DJ’s to play a set for the virtual audience. Between the vivid lights and crazy set up, these mini sets will have you groovin’ in the comfort of your own living room!

Be sure to follow @insonmiac or @pasqualerotella for updates on the next livestream!

IG Live Concerts

Plenty of artists are falling into this virtual trend and performing on their Instagram lives. You may have to follow your favorite artists (if you aren’t already) for notifications, as this style of “concert” is usually very impromptu. Artists like Diplo and Miguel have gone live performing exclusive sets and brand new renditions of fan favorites, and the trend just keeps on growing as more artists are hoping on. Virtual audiences can tune in and see their faves in a more personal light – a small perk of being a part of a virtual concert 🎼

Tiny Desk

If intimate performances are more your style, we recommend checking out NPR’s Tiny Desk concert series on YouTube. The series has been around for some time now, which means you have tons of videos to choose from. Each video is about 3-6 songs long and features 100% performances from artists, complete with a band and background vocals.

One of the best parts is that similar to IG live concerts, those performing at on Tiny Desk stage are truly able to showcase their personalities, creating a more personal experience that you don’t normally get at an actual event.

Festival Vlogs

What I’m missing most about #FestivalSZN aside from the music is the entire experience! Being with your loved ones for the weekend, making memories, and being immersed within all there is to see at each festival is by far the absolute best feeling. If you’re feeling the same way, then we suggest surfing YouTube for some fun festival vlogs! The cool thing about this is that you now have the ability to see a festival through someone else’s eyes, and we don’t know about you, but this helps ramp up the excitement for festival goers all over again!

We know, we know: these virtual events won’t ever be the same as the real thing.

There’s no denying that, and we're not trying to convince you otherwise. However, the more we all do our part in physically distancing ourselves from one another, the sooner we can get this virus under control and get ourselves back out there on the dance floor. Are there any events being live-streamed that we should know about? Share the love & let us know in the comments below!

Thanks for always supporting Modern Gents, especially during the pandemic. We hope that you, your loved ones, and your community are keeping safe. Please continue to practice social distancing and good hygiene habits! In the meantime, see you in the virtual concert comments sections!
