7 Feel-Good Movies to Lift Your Spirits

With the world changing every day all around us, we’ve all found it had to keep our spirits up.

Thankfully, that's what movies are for! Many of these movies you've probably already seen once (or multiple times), but you may have forgotten about them. If quarantine’s got you down, here's a few movies to cheer you up when you need it the most. Laugh, cry, and enjoy!

1. Hitch (Netflix)

Hitch movie

There’s a reason why Hitch is a guilty pleasure for thousands around the world. A classic film from 2005, Hitch tells the story of Alex Hitchens, a suave “date doctor” played by the one and only Will Smith, who helps guys get the girl of their dreams. He’s tasked with helping Kevin James’ character woo a woman who is way out of his league while trying to win over a beautiful reporter, played by Eva Mendes, without revealing his identity. As the audience, you’re given a wonderful mix of bromance, friendship, and love that’ll tug at your heartstrings.

2. The Incredibles (Disney+)

The Incredibles movie

The Incredibles is the only animated film on this list, but for good reason. It holds its own against the other movies for its classic lines and comedic timing (cue “Where’s my super suit?!”) For those of us who remember seeing The Incredibles as kids, you left the theatre feeling that if you tried hard enough, you could run as fast as Dash or turn invisible like Violet. It underscored the importance of family and sticking together, something we can all use at a time like this.

3. Remember The Titans (Disney+)

Remember the Titans movie

This movie is for the sports lovers (and even non sport lovers) in the building. It’s been everyone’s favorite football film since 2000, bringing to life the story of African-American coach Herman Boone. You’ll come for Denzel Washington’s stellar performance and stick around for the cuteness provided by Hayden Panettiere. The themes of unity, sportsmanship, and true brotherhood will have you rooting for the teams as if you were in the stands yourself.

4. Begin Again (Sling TV)

Begin Again movie

We all love a good underdog movie. Begin Again features Keira Knightly and Mark Ruffalo as a singer-songwriter and a struggling record executive, respectively. They work together to create an album that is recorded live in various locations around New York City, finding themselves along the way. It’s a movie that helps us see why staying true to yourself is always the best choice, no matter what people have to say.

5. Legally Blonde (Amazon Prime)

Legally Blonde movie

If you didn’t try to bend and snap at least once in your life, you haven’t lived. Arguably one of Reese Witherspoon’s most iconic roles, Legally Blonde is the comeback movie we all never knew we needed. While her breakup with her Harvard Law boyfriend initially leaves her reeling, we watch Elle pick herself up and become the great lawyer (and strong, independent woman) we always knew she could be.

6. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (Netflix)

Ferris Bueller's Day Off movie

One of the ’80s most iconic films, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off helps us all find our inner teenager. If you’ve never been to Chicago, the movie doubles as a love letter to the city, with the main characters visiting Chicago landmarks like the Sears Tower and Art Insitute of Chicago. At a time where most of us are stuck inside, watching Ferris and his friends joyride through downtown Chicago may be just what you need.

7. Sing Street (Vudu)

Sing Street movie

A coming of age comedy set in the 80s, Sing Street takes us into the world of Conor Lawler. Conor is a young teen who’s been forced to change schools, putting him into a whole new world. He starts a band to impress a girl, but he learns about the true meanings of expression, family, and friendship along the way. As a bonus, the soundtrack will have you dancing around your home shredding it on your air guitar.
