The Do's & Don'ts of Announcing Your Engagement

The moment you get engaged, you want to shout it from the mountaintops.

And hey, we get it! Maybe you've been waiting for this moment for a long time, or maybe it was a complete surprise. Either way, announcing your engagement is an art form that needs to be done tastefully! Here are some of the do's & don'ts of announcing your new fiancé/e status.

DO savor the moment between you and your sweetheart!

After all, this is a huge milestone for the both of you. While you may want to immediately snap a #ringselfie and send it to the group chat, refrain from hopping on to your phone just yet. Take your photo, but afterwards tuck your phone away and spend some real quality time with your new fiancé/e! Bask in the moment and cherish every second of this magical day.

DON'T post to social media before telling your closest loved ones.

While the photos may be edited and ready to post, don't open up Instagram or Facebook just yet. The closest people in your life deserve to find out directly from you first, and not through social media. Even if you can only video chat with them, make the time to personally seek them out and tell the good news yourself. Trust us, they'll appreciate it.

DO consider an engagement-moon.

You're only engaged for a short amount of time, so it's only right to celebrate it! In addition to your honeymoon, the engagement-moon is a trip we recommend all couples take. This is a specific vacation to spend together as fiancés, so don't miss out on it. The engagement-moon also doesn't have to be anything huge (save that for the honeymoon!), so even a staycation in the next town over will be more than special. Check out our post on why you should take an engagement-moon for more details!

Note:  Please adhere to your local, state, and federal regulations for travel during the COVID-19 pandemic.

DON'T over-post on social media.

We know you're excited (and we are too!), but the last thing anyone likes is someone who overshares, or worse – brags. Keep it tasteful and limit yourself to a few select posts. If you have lots of photos you want to share, rather than making separate posts for each of them, combine all your pictures into one slideshow post. Don't forget to use the hashtag #ModGentsCouples when posting your engagement photos or #ModGentsRings for ring selfies – we'd love to see them!
